Because the HD in my mother's three-year-old Latitude died. Of course, she saves everything to the desktop and doesn't know any passwords. I think I'm going to have to send it out for data recovery.
And what a disappointment that thing was inside—four core i5 with ONE heatpipe and a fan the size of a ritz cracker. It probably cooked. Two sticks of RAM, though, so there's that, I guess.
In the meantime, she's getting a little upgrade off my shelf to get up and running.
