Hey All

I am a big fan of the older school world of PC Games, specifically those of the RTS/Shooter Genres. Hoping to find some others who share the same passion who might be able to point me in the direction of some undiscovered gems.

Some of my favourites include the original HomeWorld, original Starcraft, Total Annihilation, original Call of Duty... I could keep going. My first love was Warcraft 2:Tides of Darkness, my forever love is Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos

Currently, I am revisiting the 1996 game Lords of the Realm 2, bringing the rule of the throne under my fist by way of the sword and medieval economy balance.

Any other lovers of these games out there?

During the lockdowns this past year, I dug out several of my older PC games. Mostly old sims games, but also a few distinct titles.

Recently I played Age of Empires, Command and Conquer, Dungeon Keeper, and Heros or Might and Magic.

I was struggling to get my Windows 10 PC to run a few others due compatibility issues. A few require 256 color, but most modern graphics cards don't support this anymore.

I feel your pain when it comes to system woes. I still have almost every disk I have bought, but I keep them mostly for sentimental reasons now. There is no way I can get some of them to work without way more effort then I am prepared to put in.

Steam is the only saving grace of a lot of those games. LOTR2 only works cause I got it from there.

Might and Magic I don't remember ever hearing of before, and dang there are a lot of them!
I'm so happy Age of Empires 2 got remastered, it'll likely be compatible with modern systems for a long time 😀

Note, I didn't have the 2 after my AOE. I have the first version and still play it.

Although it does crash in some of the later campaign levels.

I have never given AOE a play as an adult. As a child I sucked at it and just spammed those cars to win. I still have my CD for it, can you get it to run on Windows 10?

I'm also going to hit up the AOE2 remaster next time I want to revisit that game. Even though I haven't played in years, I still watch youtubers who have been playing the game since it's origin.

The original was pretty good too! Just a little before my time, so I only played it at other friends' places

I have the "HD Edition" which came out in 2013 I think? It's pretty much the same old AOE2. They fixed one or two things that were pretty annoying in the original, and you can play on larger screen resolutions. I think there's an even newer version of AOE2 now, but I'm not sure what's new in that one
They released the Definitive Edition in November 2019 and the graphics got a MAJOR upgrade. The way buildings collapse is super pleasing to watch.
