Spirit Island burst onto the scene in 2017 to huge acclaim. Currently it is ranked #11 on Board Game Geek, and it well deserves that position.
In this game you take on the role of one of the island spirits, defending your island from outside invaders. As humans try to settle your lands, explore, build towns, and even create sprawling cities, you and your fellow spirits fight back to destroy them.
Each spirit that you can play as has different abilities that focus on different areas: defense, offense, control, fear, and utility. There is a significant amount of area control mechanics going on, and you work together to manage how to best combat these humans that dare trespass on your land.
