Thunder Tiger RC Car - Mirage Vspec - Glow Plug Issues

911 Views 6 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Lalji
I built this Thunder Tiger RC car known as the Mirage Vspec about 22 years ago. I was told it can go over 100km per hour. With remote control and everything, it was over $1000.

But every time I started the engine, it would get too hot and as a result the glow plug that keeps the cylinders firing would melt in seconds. There is a screw in the side of the motor that controls gas or air intake. When I ran into my first issues with the motor I turned that screw. Unfortunately it made the issue worse. Since I had no direction and didn't know what to look for, I tried randomly turning the screw hoping to find a happy spot. But it proved expensive enough to get me to eventually give up on that as a potential solution.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Wow, that is better than any RC car I've ever owned.
No idea? Does that screw control the fuel air mixture? Is the plug inserted properly?

Plugs gets screwed in from the top of the motor into the cylinder. So as each one burns out a new one gets put in. I don't think that is the issue.

I think it is the screw which controls the air fuel mix. There is no direction for where to reset the screw to.

Maybe different spark plugs? There are ceramic plugs that can take immense amounts of heat/pressure.

That's a good point - I'm sure there have been some innovations in the glow plug space. I'll take a look.
Good luck! It would be great to see a video of that thing in action!
