Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar

Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar is probably in my top 20 board games of all time. This worker placement game has some really interesting mechanics. The game board has spinning wheels that your workers sit on. After each round, the game board makes a small turn, advancing all workers forward one action space.

Each round you get to choose between one of two possible actions (never both): place one or more workers on the tracks, or take one or more workers back. When you take a worker off the track, you gain the benefit displayed by the action space next to your worker. As the game board spins, your workers advance to new and better action spaces.

Throughout the game you collect resources, gain points, and sometimes even anger the gods by burning down a forest😲. There are many ways to earn points, which makes a variety of strategies viable to win the game.
