You shouldn't bother with just a gold subscription anyway. Ultimate is the way to go and Game Pass is the future for MS. This is likely just MS's way of funneling everyone to game pass.

That's exactly the reason, and agreed on all fronts. Still, a price hike is a price hike however it's spun.

Would not surprise me in the slightest. As they continue to push digital games over physical ones, they need to make more revenue somehow.

I recently renewed my gold subscription, but I am in a 'non supported' region and there are not very many titles available here in their online marketplace. It is still better for me to get the physical games so that I can have a full library. I am not very interested in going all digital.

Microsoft has announced that it is reversing its decision and will not change Xbox Live Gold pricing. Furthermore, free-to-play games will no longer require an Xbox Live Gold membership to play on Xbox consoles.
